Ettermæle means the memory we leave behind.
In Norwegian, ettermæle describes how a person is remembered — the stories, impressions and memories that live on. Its closest English equivalent is legacy.
For us, that legacy lives in the people we love and the moments we share. A portrait gives those memories a place in our homes, keeping a familiar face and a family story close for the generations to come.
Created by a family, for families.
Ettermæle began during designer and amateur photographer Markus Vesøen’s parental leave. It grew from a simple wish: to give families a beautiful, lasting way to preserve the people and moments that matter most.
As more of our lives became digital, we wanted to create something lasting. Something to hang on the wall today and become part of the family story tomorrow.
Ettermæle is our way of preserving those moments: portraits inspired by classical oil painting, made to be passed down.
